What We Do

A place to study. A place to connect. A place to belong.

The Michigan Christian Study Center represents a new approach to Christian higher education. We are a Christian academic community embedded within a premier university where relationships can flourish among those who seek to take the life of faith and the life of the mind seriously.

We exist to enrich the University of Michigan by providing a place of authentic community that connects Christian faith and academic life.

We accomplish this by serving as a place of Christian hospitality for students and faculty at the University, sponsoring a variety of activities, including social gatherings, book clubs, academic courses, faculty forums, and public lectures.

  • Hospitality

As a place-based Christian learning community within the university, the Michigan Christian Study Center seeks to be a home that provides a true sense of belonging.

Visit our page to learn about our location, hours of operation, and find answers to frequently asked questions.

  • Friday lunch series

Students are invited to visit the center every Friday during the academic year for our Thinking Christianly, Living Faithfully lunch series.

Friday lunches provide a free lunch and the chance to hear from a U-M speaker. Upcoming Friday lunches are listed on our events page.

  • Whole person formation

We provide students with resources to connect their faith with their area of academic study. Some opportunities include borrowing books from our in-house library, joining a book club or Bible study, participating in prayer groups, or enrolling in a Program in Christian Studies class. Students can learn more here.

  • Faculty discussions

University of Michigan faculty members meet regularly to encourage one another and discuss how their Christian faith informs their academic disciplines. To receive faculty event updates, email Rick Ostrander, Executive Director, at rickostr@umich.edu.

  • Campus ministries connector

Several campus ministry leaders gather at the Center regularly to encourage one another, pray together, and lift up the university in prayer. We also offer our space as a welcoming home for campus ministries to meet, connect, and host various events throughout the year.

  • Public events

We are committed to enriching the University of Michigan by hosting events that model civil, respectful dialogue, even between those with deep disagreements because discussion and debate are foundational to truth-seeking. In doing so, we call members of the community back to an understanding of teaching, learning, creative work, and scholarship as God intended it to be: an intrinsic good that brings joy to the creature and glorifies the Creator of all truth. Visit our Events page to view upcoming events.

Program in Christian Studies

The program in Christian studies is a four-semester sequence taught by trained scholars that explores the Bible, theology, Christian history, and Christian vocation. Through a partnership with a local Christian university, students may take some of the courses for credit that transfers to Michigan.
